GOPANEL SYSTEM & SPINES | MODULAR PLATFORMS

The days of pegboards are over. The trades industry demanded a more robust alternative that could hold up to the abuse on jobsites. Who better to solve this problem than Diamondback? The GoPanel System is our response to the growing need amongst tradesmen and women for a long-lasting modular platform. The GoPanel itself is constructed out of aircraft-grade aluminum and coated in a thick layer of black textured powder coat similar to bedliner. The shelving attachments, Drill Dock, and Tube + Can Rack shown are constructed out of marine-grade aluminum with TIG welded seams. GoPanel attachments receive the same black textured powder coat utilized on the GoPanel with moving components highlighted with red textured powder coat.

Spines take from the patented grid of the GoPanel and translates it into a smaller product that can be mounted to your workbench, cart, or table saw. This product allows the consumer to put any clipped product in a viable, previously unused, location for easy access. Both the Mini and Mega Spine utilize the same aircraft-grade aluminum found on the GoPanel. Currently both sizes of the Spine have a smooth satin black powder coat which will soon be swapped out for the durable powder coat present on the GoPanel System.

E-SERIES DRILL RACK | STORAGE RACK

The E-Series Drill Rack was designed with quality and affordability in mind. Between the low cost of goods, low shipping cost, and the ease of install it’s hard to believe how durable this rack and shelf combo are. The slots are long enough and wide enough to accommodate any cordless drill or impact driver regardless of size! This is the ultimate storage solution for any handyman with an abundance of power tools.

THE UNDERGROUND CLASSROOM | MOBILE MUSEUM

The Underground Classroom is a mobile museum created for Headwaters Soil and Water Conservation District during my time spent with Gropen. The overall goal was to create a hands-on museum for kids of all ages to learn about the creatures that live below us! With a team consisting of three designers (including myself), four fabricators, and one painter we managed to construct an immersive experience out of a motorcycle hauler from start to finish in-house.

LIPSTICK CONCEPT | COSMETICS PACKAGING

FirstShotLipstick.1029.jpg

Sprayground is a brand that has grown exponentially over the past few years. As a result, they chose to branch off into cosmetics. This is a look into my take on a strong approach to continuing their brand language while infiltrating a new market. I performed immense market research and studied the competition over a two month period. My goal was to discover what would sell and what would make a statement. Long nights sketching and ideating mixed with CAD modeling led me to this very solution!

CARABINER HYBRID | COMPACT TOOL

PortfolioPage1.png

This carabiner hybrid is a final solution I designed in order to address a problem with Humvee rollovers. My client, a lieutenant in the United States Army, informed me that while being stationed overseas soldiers would frequently become suspended upside down in Humvees after striking an improvised explosive device (IED). Most soldiers carry some form of utility knife with them at all times, but it is typically inconveniently located in this specific scenario. The overall design of the carabiner hybrid  addresses this issue by allowing soldiers to hook a seatbelt cutter to any loop or hole without conflicting with the user's ability to move. Its compact and lightweight profile allows the product to tag along for any given mission without a noticeable amount of added weight. Though the carabiner hybrid is lightweight, its internal honeycomb pattern provides for a significantly stronger product. The simplicity of the product ensures that all users can effectively use the product without much difficulty.

LEVERAGE SHOVEL | UTILITY TOOL

The leverage shovel concept focuses on reducing pressure that a traditional shovel imposes on the joints. The shovel has two primary functions that reduce impact, a sliding shovel head and a shock absorbing shoulder stock (inspired by assault rifle buttstocks). The sliding shovel head consists of a removable head and foot pegs. The shovel head itself can be unscrewed from the foot pegs and swapped out for whatever head is most effective for the job. The shoulder stock consists of two parts as well, a lightweight central stock and a synthetic rubber exterior. The rubber exterior is connected to the central stock with plungers that travel through the central stock's ports. The result of this combination provides extra cushion as soon as the shovel head breaks ground. The foot pegs travel along the shaft of the shovel through the hollowed out channel. This allows for the head and pegs to travel an acceptable distance while minimizing impact on the  knees.

ARIES PICKAXE | UTILITY TOOL

The Aries pick axe is a different approach to climbing axes. This concept relies upon potential and kinetic energy to distribute a greater impact while climbing without creating significant cracking in the ice. A small weight slides within the body of the axe along the same axis as the pick. Form became my secondary concern while working on this concept due to human factors research.

WATCHDOG | ACTIVE SHOOTER SYSTEM

Watchdog is a smoke screen detonation device designed for active school/workplace shooters. Instead of arming teachers, or giving students bullet-resistant backpacks and desks, the Watchdog smoke system gives individuals the time to escape the building while denying movement of the active shooter. The device is affordable (for once), able to be mounted on just about any surface, and simple to operate.

EASTWOOD FARM & WINERY | WINE PACKAGING

Eastwood_WineBottleLabel_RaspberryRose1-01.jpg

Eastwood Farm & Winery is a local Charlottesville winery that started bottling in late 2019. To-date I have designed wine labels, promotional materials, and permanent signage for the winery as a freelance designer. The design direction taken on the packaging and signage shown above was the result of exceptional collaboration between the client and myself.
